A Fortune 500 company wanted more than an innovation event. One-off workshops and away days produce enthusiasm that rarely survives contact with Monday morning. The energy dissipates, the ideas sit in a deck nobody opens, and the organisation is no more capable of innovating six months later than it was before.
What the company needed was something fundamentally different: a repeatable model that would build genuine, lasting innovation capability in its people while simultaneously delivering real business results. The two objectives had to work together, not sit in tension. Training that produces no commercial output is hard to justify. Commercial sprints that leave no capability behind are quickly forgotten.
The challenge was also one of scale. This was a large, complex organisation. Any model that could not be run consistently across multiple cohorts, in different parts of the business, without losing its rigour or its impact, would not be sufficient.
Red Mountain designed and delivered an innovation programme built around real business problems rather than hypothetical scenarios. Participants were not practising on invented case studies. They were applying innovation methodology to challenges the company actually needed to solve, which meant the learning was grounded in genuine stakes and every output had genuine value.
The programme structure was designed to be repeatable without becoming formulaic. Each cohort worked through the same rigorous process, building the same foundational capability in design thinking, opportunity identification, and commercial validation. But the problems they worked on, and the solutions they developed, were specific to their part of the business. The learning was universal. The application was always live.
Over time, this created something more valuable than a series of trained cohorts. It built a growing internal population across the organisation who shared a common language and approach to innovation: people who could identify an opportunity, build a case for it, and take it forward without needing external support to do so.
Seven programmes delivered. Over 600 participants trained. Six-figure sales outcomes generated per cohort as a direct result of the work produced during the programme itself.
The commercial return is significant. The more durable outcome is an organisation with genuine, self-sustaining innovation capability. When the programme ends, the capability stays. That is the difference between an event and an investment.
The intrapreneur programme Red Mountain ran enabled us to pivot from a transactional service model to a consultancy approach. It was highly engaging and output-focused throughout.
